Former editor of Hong Kong newspaper stabbed, in critical condition

Former editor-in-chief of local newspaper Ming Pao Kevin Lau was assaulted on Wednesday on the Hong Kong Island, and the police said there were two unidentified attackers.

Riding an electric bicycle, the attackers stabbed the victim with a knife and inflicted six major wounds on Lau, who was collecting his vehicle when he was attacked. He called the police and then was taken to a hospital where his condition was critical but not life threatening after the surgery.

Hong Kong Chief Executive C Y Leung strongly condemned the assault, saying that such violence was intolerable in Hong Kong, a city ruled by law.

"The Special Administrative Region government and I are deeply concerned about the assault incident and expressed outrage and condemned the act of violence. The police will make complete investigation and I call on any person who is able to provide clues to the case to contact the police as soon as possible so as to bring the attacker to justice," Leung said in a statement.

Hong Kong police said they have collected the fingerprint information of the attackers from Lau's body and they will spare no efforts to hunt them down.

Ming Pao has decided to offer a reward of 1 million HK dollars for information regarding the attackers.
