Beijing experiences hot weather in holiday

Beijing experienced unusual hot weather into the May Day holiday, with temperatures in parts of the city reaching over 37 degrees Celsius on Friday.

Half of the 20 national-level meteorological stations in Beijing reported the hottest weather for the May 1-5 period since they were built, according to Guo Jinlan, a chief forecaster with the Beijing Meteorological Service.

On Thursday, Yanqing, a northern mountainous district usually with colder weather, saw temperature exceed 35 degrees Celsius, reporting the earliest hot weather day at or over 35 degrees Celsius since 1959. The temperature continued to rise above 37 degrees Celsius in parts of Yanqing and Mentougou.

The heat wave is forecast to continue on Saturday before subsiding on Sunday with a rainfall. From Sunday to next Tuesday, the rest of the May Day holiday, the highest temperatures of the days are expected to fall to 25 to 28 degrees Celsius.
