Edinburgh Airport was closed on Tuesday afternoon while the police was investigating a suspicious package spotted in a security x-ray machine.

The airport was not accepting the incoming flights and passengers were advised not to travel to the airport, said the official Edinburgh Airport website at a twitter message.

A bomb disposal team was at the airport and a passenger was being questioned, as the security alert left several hundreds passengers waiting at the airport's parking area, the Sky TV news reported.

The investigation procedure could take hours as a cautious security step, the report added.

Some passengers wondered whether the airport could reopen Tuesday night, while some others had no idea as their bags were already checked through.
