Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday said leaders from the BRICS member countries reached a broad consensus on a variety of issues during the three-day summit in Xiamen.

Xi made the remarks at a press conference where he outlined the outcomes from the summit, which concludes in the southeastern Chinese city on Tuesday.

He said that leaders exchanged views and reached consensus on issues such as the international situation, global governance, international and regional hotspots and national security and development.

Leaders agreed to strengthen efforts to achieve the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, he said.

Xi also said that China will support South Africa as it prepares to host next year's BRICS Summit.

The emerging-market bloc of BRICS, which groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa together, issued a joint document named Xiamen Declaration after a leaders' plenary session on Monday, pledging to play active roles in economic growth, international cooperation and global governance.

Leaders of Egypt, Guinea, Mexico, Tajikistan and Thailand also joined in the Dialogue of Emerging Market and Developing Countries, to promote expanded cooperation among developing countries.
