Veteran Bollywood actor, director and producer Rishi Kapoor passed away in India's Mumbai on Thursday morning.

Renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan tweeted that the 67-year old actor has passed away.

Debuting as a child artist in 1970, Kapoor, who acted in close to 100 Hindi films, had returned to India in September after undergoing treatment for cancer in United States for almost a year and was admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday morning.

Death of Kapoor is a set-back for the Indian film and entertainment industry after another actor Irrfan Khan passed away also due to cancer on Wednesday.

Rishi Kapoor had received the National Film Award for his debut role as a child artist in his father Raj Kapoor's 1970 film Mera Naam Joker and played his first lead role as adult in 1973 in the Hindi film Bobby for which he received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1974.

"The sudden demise of actor Rishi Kapoor is shocking. He was not only a great actor but a good human being. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans. Om Shanti," Prakash Javadekar, India's Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting said in his tweet.
