Dozens of companies have gathered in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, to showcase the latest cutting-edge high-definition technology at the World Ultra High Definition (UHD) Video Industrial Conference lasting from Saturday to Monday.

It's the fourth edition of the annual event, which has become a key indicator for the development of the industry. Based on what's on display here, one can only imagine the endless possibilities.

This year, advanced technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) take center stage.

Companies come with their latest applications of UHD technologies, including operation tables, glass-free 3D displays and a live field production vehicle.

Rollable screens can be used for electronic sports on mobile phones and also on some special displays.

The UHD technology is growing fast, and the new applications show the world is making great strides in video technology.

"UHD video technology, along with 5G and AI, is a key direction in today's information technology. And its development will help promote broadcast terminals, displays and chips, and boost the digitization of the industry and content production," said Xiao Yaqing, minister of industry and information technology.

UHD displays can also be combined with other forms of high tech.

"The integration of UHD videos, 5G, AI and virtual reality brings about a large number of new opportunities, applications and models for commercial use of 5G," said Zhang Li, president of China Center for Information Industry Development.

He added China could soon enter the era of 8K HD – display resolutions with a width of 8,000 pixels, among the highest available.

"China's 8K era is expected to come early. 8K terminals, including the technology product chain, is set up. In addition, digital content copyright protection is also in place and has been raised to a new level."
