Indonesian president announces cabinet lineup

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Sunday announced his cabinet lineup with over half of its posts filled by technocrats, and Widodo himself called the cabinet " Working Cabinet."

"I name this as Working Cabinet. it consists of 34 ministers," President Joko Widodo said before introducing his cabinet lineup together with Vice President Jusuf Kalla in the presidential palace premises here.

The unveiling of the cabinet lineup came up shortly after the president received parliamentary approval for some changes of the lineup.

Fifteen ministers appointed to serve in the cabinet come from political parties supporting the president, while the remaining 19 come from among professionals and ministers served in the previous governments.

More than half of the posts are filled by technocrats, including Finance Minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, who was deputy finance minister under the previous cabinet; Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil, who was minister for state enterprises and information minister under the previous administrations.

The cabinet gives the post of foreign minister to Retno Lestary Priansari Marsudi, a former Ambassador to the Netherlands, and she is also the first woman undertaking the task.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security is Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno. Energy and Mines Minister is Sudirman Said.

The daughter of Megawati Sukarnoputri who is head of Widodo's party of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), and other politicians close to her are also appointed as ministers.

The president is expected to inaugurate his cabinet on Monday, and the cabinet will serve from 2014 to 2019.
