London City Airport was closed on Sunday night after an unexploded WWII bomb was found in the River Thames at the nearby King George V Dock earlier in the day.

The airport tweeted: "Following the discovery of a World War Two ordnance in King George V Dock as part of planned development works, a 214m exclusion zone has been implemented as a precaution by the Met Police”.

The navy is working with a specialist bomb-disposal team to remove the bomb, but it was not clear how long the operation will take.

Passengers have been advised to stay away from the airport for the time being and contact their airline.
