At least three police personnel and a paramilitary trooper were wounded in a grenade attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Monday.

The grenade attack was carried out by suspected militants on Sunday night in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Last night militants attacked a roadside bunker in downtown area of Saraf Kadal locality here, which exploded with a bang," a police official told Xinhua. "In the attack three policemen and a paramilitary trooper were wounded."

Following the attack, the wounded personnel were immediately rushed to a nearest hospital.

"All of them are stable and under treatment inside the hospital," the official said.

Though government forces immediately launched a massive hunt to nab the militants responsible for the attack, however, no one was arrested. Reports said following the attack militants managed to escape from the spot.

In a separate attack in southern district of Shopian, militants attacked police station and a house of former Indian legislator.

"In Shopian militants fired upon a police station and a former legislator's house using automatic rifles. The policemen deployed at both the places retaliated to militant fire," a police official posted in Shopian said.

"The exchange (of fire) lasted for sometime, after which militants escaped under the cover of darkness. No loss of life or damage was reported in the attack."

On Sunday a special police official (SPO) was wounded at village Imam Sahib in the district, when militants fired upon him at the marketplace. The police official was referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment.

So far, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the attacks.

Militant groups opposing New Delhi's rule are engaged in a guerilla war with Indian troops in the region since 1989. Gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently.

Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between India and Pakistan, is claimed by both in full. Since their independence from Britain, the two countries have fought three wars, two exclusively over Kashmir.
