Indonesia’s capital holds 10th landmark fashion extravaganza

**JAKARTA, Oct. 23 (APD) ** — Indonesia’s capital of Jakarta held week-long landmark fashion extravaganza event, which has entered its 10th anniversary this year, participated by domestic and foreign designers including from Australia, England, India, Japan, South Korea and Sweden.

To mark the decade-long event, which now entitled The 2018 Jakarta Fashion Week, the organizer picked a theme of “Diversity and Creativity” to remind of the nation’s cultural richness sourced from the diversity among its people.

“No other industry that addresses more to the importance of diverse influence, cultural heritage and different points of view, than fashion. No other country is as diverse as ours. That is the essence of Indonesia,” JFW Chair Svida Alisjahbana said in her remarks to open the event held in Jakarta’s opulent shopping mall of Senayan City over the weekend.

She added that the theme is also relevant to the current situation among the public with the growing of radicalism aftermath the conduction of regional elections marred with use of sensitive sectarian issues that could harm the unity of the nation.

The Pia Alisjabana Awards dedicated for individuals and institutions highly promoting national fashion industry were delivered in the session. The award program was initiated by Pia Alisjahbana is a senior female fashion journalist, the co-founder of Femina Group publishing. The awards were delivered once every five years.

In individual category, the award was delivered to Biyan Wanaatmadja, a senior designer who has his collections displayed in Jakarta’s top department stores as well as in premium outlets in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, the United States, Italy and Bahrain.

Meanwhile for the institution category, the award was delivered for The Goods Dept. that runs seven outlets in Jakarta and Surabaya. It also opens online service for its customers.

The outlet chain was praised for allocating 80 percent of its fashion merchandizes produced by local designers.

Each day, dozens of domestic and foreign designers would be given chances to display their creations in the fashion extravaganza event that runs until Friday this week.

Designers taking part in the fashion picked particular theme for their collections displayed in the fashion show.

Besides displaying the ready-to-wear cloth collections, the fashion event also gives chances for designers to showcase their coutures through their models in the catwalk.
