At least 10 killed, 7 injured in firework plant explosion in Henan

(PEOPLE'S DAILY) Aerial photos taken on Jan. 14, 2016 show the explosion site in Tongxu County of Kaifeng City, central China's Henan Province. The firework plant exploded at around 10:48 am on Thursday, killing at least 10 people and injured 7.

The illegal fireworks plant was built in a village field 8 kilometers away from the county’s main urban area. As the explosion happened, blast cloud bursts several meters high up and people can see it even 6 kilometers away from the site.

According to a villager surnamed Liu, house windows of many nearby residents were shattered and one victim died of the falling bricks from the wall.

Authorities have arrested the person responsible for the blast. And the cause of the blast is still being investigated.
