Myanmar, Japan discuss bilateral cooperation

Myanmar Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi met here with her Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Tuesday, discussing on bilateral cooperation in implementing democracy and economic development in Myanmar.

Suu Kyi, who is also the state counselor, thanked Japan for its interest in Myanmar new government's undertakings.

For his part, Kishida pledged that Japan will support Myanmar to create job opportunities, construct and develop infrastructures in the sectors of health, education, agriculture and finance as well as to build a sound investment environment that will benefit both Japanese and Myanmar entrepreneurs.

Kishida said Japan wanted to enhance Japan-Mekong Connectivity which focuses on strengthening the regional ties and cultivating human resources.

Kishida invited Aung San Suu Kyi to visit Japan again following her last visit to the country in the capacity of chairman of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in 2013.

Kishida also met Myanmar's President U Htin Kyaw and Commander- in-Chief of the Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on the same day.
