Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is coming into battleground state Michigan's Democratic presidential primary with a 24-point lead over Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, according to a new poll released on Monday.

A 77-year-old moderate political veteran, Biden has 51 percent support in Michigan, which will hold a primary on Tuesday, according to the Detroit Free Press survey, compared to 27 percent for Sanders, a 78-year-old progressive.

The poll has a margin of error of 4.9 percentage points.

Biden's lead comes nearly a week after his comeback victory on "Super Tuesday," in which he won 10 of 14 states voting on that day and Sanders won the other four.

The former vice president is also leading in a race with the Vermont senator for the most pledged delegates to July's Democratic National Convention (DNC).

U.S. Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii is still in the Democratic primary race but is trailing well behind Biden and Sanders.

In 2016, Sanders won Michigan in the Democratic primary with an upset victory against Hillary Clinton after polls showed him trailing well behind the former U.S. secretary of state.

Sanders still leads among voters between the ages of 18 and 34, at 58 percent support compared to Biden's 17 percent, according to Monday's poll.

Besides Michigan, which awards 125 pledged delegates to the DNC, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, and Washington will also hold primary elections on Tuesday.

Biden received several major endorsements on Monday, including from ex-Democratic presidential contender and Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey and Everytown For Gun Safety, a gun violence prevention group.
