China’s first own built aircraft carrier starts power system tests

China's second aircraft carrier has begun power system tests. The yet-to-be named vessel is the first aircraft carrier designed and built exclusively by China, and the second in its fleet.

Construction began in December 2015 and in late April this year, the carrier, which is classified as Type 001A, was launched in

the city of Dalian, northeast China. It has been undergoing testing since.

The general director for developing the ship said testing the power system lays the foundation for future sea tests. The director also said China has already established a special team for aircraft carrier development.
