Singpore's former PM Lee Kuan Yew still in ICU for severe pneumonia

Former prime minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, is still in the intensive care unit (ICU) for severe pneumonia, the Prime Minister's Office said on Thursday.

"Lee remains sedated and on mechanical ventilation. His doctors have restarted him on antibiotics, and are continuing to monitor him closely," the office said in a statement.

Lee, 91, was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on Feb. 5 for severe pneumonia.

His ill health has prevented him from attending public and constituency events in recent months.

Lee was hospitalized for an infection, fever and cough during the Lunar New Year in 2014. In 2013, he was admitted to hospital for a suspected transient ischemic attack, an episode where irregular heartbeat leads to a brief stoppage of blood flow to the brain.
