Two missing after ship collision in south China

Two people are missing after a transport ship named ”Xinying F069” sank after colliding with passenger vessel “Haikou 9” on the waters off Hai’an New Port of Xuwen County of south China's Guangdong Province, at 00:46 BJT on Thursday.

Five people on Xinying F069 fell into the water after the collision, but two remain unaccounted for after three of them were rescued. Local authorities have deployed rescue teams for the search.

“Haikou 9” – with over 970 people and 140 cars on board – was crossing the Qiongzhou Strait from Xiuying Port in Hainan Province to Hai’an New Port when the collision occurred.

The passenger vessel has been guided to stop at Hai’an port at 6 a.m. local time, where all passengers and cars on the ship have left the port safely.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is still underway.
