Uganda Cranes optimistic despite loss to Egypt

Uganda Cranes learnt from the loss to Egypt in Wednesday's friendly match when the East African country preparing a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Senegal on September 7, a top team official said here on Thursday.

Cranes assistant coach Sam Timbe told Xinhua in an interview that although they lost to Egypt, they are optimistic they will be at their best come Sept. 7.

"We have discovered several of our weak points and will rectify them before the Senegal game," said Timbe.

Uganda Cranes needs to beat Senegal to qualify for the last stage of the World Cup qualifiers.

"We are not happy with the result, but we are glad we know where to concentrate and make this a better team ahead of the Senegal game," Timbe noted.

Against the six-time African champions on Wednesday at the El Gouna Stadium, the Cranes showed poor form in defending against Egyptian side.

Sam Lwere, the FA official who led the team to Egypt, thanked the hosts for a job well done despite the political tensions in their country. "We made a good trip and will do a lot of home work after the loss," said Lwere.
