Investigations released on Chinese school manic attack

Police have now given a detailed account of how knifeman Min Yongjun carried out a manic attack on 23 schoolchildren in central China's Henan Province.

The man confessed he believed in the doomsday rumor so deeply that he, quote, "wanted to remind the world of his existence," before he died.

According to police, 36-year-old Min Yongjun burst into an 85-year-old woman's house near the elementary school of Chenpeng village in Guangshan county, Henan Province on Friday.

The man stabbed the elderly woman with a kitchen knife in the house...

Then rushed to the school, and allegedly stabbed 23 primary school students, before being subdued by teachers and police.

No one was killed, but the injuries were severe:

Most of the students sustained head injuries or cuts to their fingers or ears.

And while none are now in critical condition, eight of wounded children will need reconstructive surgeries, to treat their facial wounds.

Local villagers say Min has mental problems.

And often beat up his parents and his two children.

SOUNDBITE (CHINESE) VILLAGER:

"He has two children. And the son is younger, only about two. He can lift him up easily to beat him up. When his daughter went to protect her little brother, he also kicked her."

Apart from his problem, Min told police he believes in "doomsday".

He said he heard about it from a local woman surnamed Jin, who is now on the run.

Police have since seized more than 70 brochures about "doomsday" from her house.

While crack downs on "Doomsday" rumours have begun across the country...

Police have detained 101 people who have been involved in spreading the rumors and disturbing social order...

And authorities have ordered more patrols near schools in the city, to prevent attacks against teachers and students in future.
