China's CPI up 2.8% in July

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, rose 2.8 percent year on year in July, up from 2.7 percent in June, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

Food prices grew 9.1 percent year on year last month, while non-food prices gained 1.3 percent.

The CPI in urban and rural areas, respectively, registered a 2.7-percent growth a 2.9-percent growth year on year.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.4 percent last month.
