Morocco is sending food supplies to Qatar, which is expected to suffer severe food shortages due to a diplomatic blockade in the Gulf.

Qatar imports heavily from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. But the two have shut their borders and cut ties with Qatar.

The Moroccan foreign ministry justified its decision by saying Islam teaches solidarity among Muslims and that the best time to show generosity is during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Egypt said it will keep its airspace open to flights going to and from Doha, as long as the planes are not owned by Qatar. But the country’s civil aviation authority said any non-routine flights must give notice at least 24 hours before entering Egyptian airspace.

The biggest diplomatic crisis yet between Gulf countries continues with no signs of a breakthrough.

CGTN's Adel EL Mahrouky said Iran and Turkey have already sent supplies to Doha, and the similar move by Morocco indicates that the country is willing to resist the escalating pressure from Arab nations.
