A total of 31 human bodies have been discovered in the search for the missing Myanmar military airplane, military spokesperson General Myat Min Oo said late Thursday.

The bodies of 31 people, including 21 women, eight children and two men, had been recovered. All of the bodies were taken to a military hospital in Dawei, said the spokesperson.

The military plane, carried 108 passengers and 14 crew members, left the southern coastal town of Myeik early on Wednesday afternoon bound for Myanmar's largest city, Yangon. It lost contact at 1:35 p.m. local time Wednesday when it was southwest of the town of Dawei.

The search for the missing plane is continuing with local fisherman joining nine navy ships, five military aircraft, and three helicopters of the Air Force.

The cause of the incident has yet to be confirmed.
