Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Saturday spoke with President of the United States Barack Obama on NATO summit to be held next week in Wales, Britain, and the situation in Iraq, said a press release by the Office of Canadian Prime Minister.

"The call focused primarily on preparations for next week's NATO summit in Wales where leaders will discuss, among other things, the coordinated response to Russia's efforts to destabilize Ukraine and undermine the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity," said the office in the statement.

The two leaders also discussed the situation in Iraq, including Canadian assistance that is being provided, it added.
