ISLAMABAD, Aug. 24 (APD) -- Pakistan on Thursday demanded the United States to take an immediate action against terrorists hiding in Afghanistan and conducting terrorist attacks in the neighboring Pakistan, an official statement said.

The demand came from Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) at its meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in capital Islamabad, to discuss the new South Asian and Afghan policy announced by the U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday.

President Donald Trump, announcing the new U.S. policy about Afghanistan on Monday evening, criticized Pakistan for housing terrorists on its soil.

Pakistan has categorically rejected all allegations and urged the U.S. to recognize its sacrifices in the war on terror.

The NSC demanded an immediate U.S. military effort to eliminate sanctuaries harboring terrorists and miscreants on the Afghan soil including those responsible for fomenting terror in Pakistan.”

The committee while rejecting specific allegations and insinuations against Pakistan by U.S. President Donald Trump, said the country as being the immediate neighbor had an abiding interest in peace and stability in Afghanistan.

“Scapegoat[ing] Pakistan will not help in stabilizing Afghanistan,” said a statement issued at the end of the meeting which was also attended by Pakistan’s chiefs of armed forces and cabinet members.

The NSC meeting further told the U.S. administration that “the Afghan war cannot be fought in Pakistan”, the U.S. should focus on Afghanistan rather than blaming others like Pakistan who has sacrificed 70 thousand people as being the frontline state in the war on terror.

It expressed deep concern at “Indian policies inimical to peace in the region, including interference in the internal affairs of neighboring countries and using terrorism as an instrument of state policy.”

Reaffirming Pakistan's resolve to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, the NSC rejected the notion that India could be the net security provider in the South Asia region when it has conflicts with all its neighbors and is pursuing a policy of destabilizing Pakistan from the east and the west.
