Two rockets were fired towards southern Israel from the Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning, no casualties or damages were reported yet, police sources confirmed to Xinhua.

The two rockets exploded in open territories in the Eshkol regional council, adjacent to the Gaza Strip.

Police forces have started scanning the area to find the remnants of the fallen rockets.

There has been relative calm since last November, after Israel and Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, signed a truce agreement after Operation Pillar of Defense.

However, in the past couple of months, more than 20 rockets were launched from Gaza towards southern Israel.

Israel's defense establishment assesses that Hamas is not behind these launches, but more extreme Islamic militant groups did it.

Two rockets were launched from the besieged enclave towards southern Israel, without causing casualties or damages.

Israeli defense officials are also concerned about rocket barrages from the Sinai Peninsula where there are extremist militant groups affiliated with al-Qaida.

Last month there were two explosions in the southern city of Eilat, not far from the peninsula.

Last Friday, an Iron Dome anti-missile battery was stationed in Eilat. "We deployed the battery in case someone decides to fire towards the city," Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said.
