Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday said he would implement a new political program next month in order to prevent corruption and fraud in the island nation.

In a statement, Sirisena said he would not allow any room to disappoint the expectation of the people who voted to bring his new government into power with the aim of creating a clean political culture and building a free country.

Sirisena won a presidential election in January last year, defeating former strongman Mahinda Rajapaksa. In August, his political party, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) formed a national government with the United National Party (UNP) after the UNP won a parliamentary election in August, and has since then vowed to fight corruption and fraud.

"Even though various criticisms were leveled against the government in an environment where the freedom of expression is secured, the government has implemented a strong strategy to uplift the living standard of the people while developing the economy of the country," he said.

He also emphasized that he would not allow any room for anyone to make fraud and corruption by misusing the state assets and if such kind of complaints were received the law would impose against them without considering their status.
