PHNOM PENH, April 30 (APD) - China Huaneng Group has unveiled its plan to invest 200 MW solar in Cambodia, aiming to contribute general clean can renewable energy in the Kingdom.
In the Sunday meeting to Prime Minister Hun Sen in Beijing, representative of China Huaneng Group said that Cambodia is potential in solar power and the company has finished study on the solar potential in Cambodia.
“The company has conducted study in Cambodia and the study shows that Cambodia has enough sunshine to be absorbable for generating electricity from solar,” according to a post in Prime Minister Hun Sen’s Facebook page.
“The company clarified that it plans to invest in generating electricity 200 MW from solar in Cambodia in the upcoming future,” the post read.
Prime Minister Hun Sen gave a nod to the project, saying that the electricity generated from solar is sustainable.
“For hydropower dams, they can operate fully in the rainy season, but in the dry season, the water is shortage, so the hydropower dams cannot operate in generating fully,” Mr. Hun Sen said in the post.
China Huaneng Group currently invests on 400 MW-Se San Lower II hydropower dam in Stung Treng province. The investment is joint venture with local company Royal Group.
