New Delhi, May 16(APD) -- According to recent reports, clones and softwares of mobile applications are available in the Indian market that can help sidestep anti-spam restrictions imposed to ensure free and fair elections.
A report in the Reuters asserts that the softwares are available for as less as $14 in India, which can check anti-spam measures particularly on WhatsApp, a mobile application owned by Facebook with as many as 200 million users in India.
In the ongoing elections such softwares are being bought and sold across the country and are being used by a number of individuals as well as organizations to spread their messages.
The forwarding restrictions were imposed by WhatsApp following an episode of violence which happened after false messages were circulated among the people through the mobile application to incite violence.
WhatsApp had then decided to allow forwarding of messages to only five people at one time.
The reports highlight that people are also employed to use the softwares and send messages which even touch as much as 100,000 a day on behalf of significant political parties of India that are contesting in the elections.
Free clone applications are also being used to cut across the restrictions. Meanwhile such apps have been described as unofficial by WhatsApp and it has also warned that users of such softfares can face ban among other penalizations.
