Five migrant workers have been killed after falling off the edge of a mountain while digging jade stones in Phakant, Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, an official report said Thursday.

The incident, which happened on Tuesday night, came after a landslide earlier in the day in which one man died and another one went missing. The victims range from the age of 20 to 39.

Some 121 people died last November in a landslide which occurred in the same area. Following the deadly landslide in Hpakant, the authorities relocated 108 migrant miners living in risk areas to safer sites. Last year has witnessed occurrence of nine similar incidents in the same area.
