We’re a couple weeks away from Razer unveiling its very first smartphone, but it looks like we may be getting some early details today. Phone Radar spotted a listing on GFXBench for a “Razer Phone” that lists a bunch of high-end but very plausible details on what may be inside the upcoming phone.
According to the listing, which has since been removed, the phone will have a 5.7-inch display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution — about the same as an LG G6. It’ll have a Snapdragon 835 processor and include a single 12-megapixel rear camera, an 8-megapixel front camera, and 64GB of internal storage.
That’s all pretty standard stuff for a flagship smartphone in 2017, but there is one really standout spec here: the phone will apparently come with 8GB of RAM. Most flagship Android phones have 4GB of RAM right now, with some including 6GB. So this leak suggests that Razer could be about to jump ahead.
Razer is supposedly planning to position its phone as a device for gaming, which makes sense given that Razer is a gaming company. Extra RAM ought to help with that, but it’s by no means a guarantee that this phone will perform better than its competitors. Ultimately, what’ll matter is how well the whole package has been optimized.
The phone will apparently be running a custom version of Android based on top of Nougat. That means it’ll be slightly out of date when it comes out, but it’s not too surprising to hear that there’ll be some customizations. Razer’s phone comes from the ashes of Nextbit, which built some really smart cloud features into the operating system. It’s possible we’ll see some of those once again here. (It’d be a waste if we didn’t!) And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Razer build in some custom gaming features, too. Here’s hoping for a Chroma integration.
An announcement for the phone is planned for November 1st.
