Nine Chinese tourists onboard the ill-fated bus that plunged into a ravine in Indonesia's leisure island of Bali on Monday afternoon were treated in three different hospitals on the island.
Head of Bali state-insurance firm Jasa Raharja, Ketut Sudiasa said on Tuesday that three of those injured were treated in Kasih Ibu hospital in Kedonganan, Jimbaran, four in Bali International Medical Center (BIMC) Nusa Dua and two in BIMC Kuta. Three of them had undergone operations in those hospitals.
The three victims treated in Kasih Ibu hospital were transferred in the afternoon to Sanglah central hospital in the capital of Bali province Denpasar for more intense treatment.
The accident claimed six lives, among them two Indonesian citizensand four Chinese tourists. The bodies of the four Chinese tourists were now placed in Sanglah hospital.
The Chinese tourists died in the crash were Boasheng Liu,55, Ding Guo Zeng, 52, Qin Ping Zhao,56 and Jin Li Zhao, 50. All the tourists involve in the crash had made contacts with their families in China.
Sudiasa said that most of those perished suffered severe injuries in their heads and other parts of their bodies.
Jasa Raharja has paid a total of 150 million rupiah (about 12, 935 U.S. dollars) insurance funds to beneficiaries of those six killed in the crash. The firm provides 25 million rupiah (about 2, 194 U.S. dollars) of insurance fund for each of the crash victim. He added that Chinese embassy in Jakarta would handle the remaining matter for the Chinese victims.
Guo Hongjin, 51, one of the survivors, told Xinhua on Tuesday afternoon that the crash occurred when the driver lost control on his bus after it passed a downward road and failed to go upward later on in Pecatu, Badung regency.
"The bus stopped briefly before the driver ran the bus upward on the U-shaped road. It suddenly stopped after running upward, as if skidded off, moved uncontrollably backward, hit the steel bar on one side of the road and plunged into the ravine right afterwards," Guo said.
The plummeted bus was later on found upside down on the slope of the ravine on the side of the road.
Guo was among the three injured now treated in Sanglah hospital after being transferred from Kasih Ibu hospital in Kedonganan, Jimbaran.
Doni, a male nurse who took part in saving passengers of that ill-fated bus recalled that he was part of the first medical team to arrive on the crash scene.
"We picked up five victims and one of them had already died and three were eventually undergone operation due to their severe injuries. Now their condition was stable as they don't have multiple injuries," Doni told Xinhua in BIMC Nusa Dua, another hospital that treated the injured Chinese tourists.
He said that the medical team deployed to the crash location was only responsible to transfer the victims to the hospitals. The ones who retrieved victims from inside the plummeted bus were professional rescuers joined in national search and rescue agency of Basarnas.
