ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APD)— Pakistan’s legendary cricketer Younis Khan has agreed to join the Afghan cricket team as a coach after his retirement from Pakistani side later this month, local media reported Thursday.

Local media, quoting Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) Chairman Atif Mashal, said that Khan had agreed to coach the Afghan cricket team and now the ACB is finalizing the contract.

The 39-year-old shining player is currently playing his final international Test match against West Indies side in Carribean.

Last month, the high-profiled player announced his retirement from the international Test cricket, who had already retired from limited overs cricket formats.

The right-hand record holding batsman has become the first Pakistani player to score more than 10,000 Test runs in his 117 Test matches.

He is also the 13th international player in the cricket history who has achieved this milestone.

Since his debut in international game in 2000, he has played 117 Tests with an average of over 52 runs with 34 hundreds, the highest from a Pakistani player.

So far, he is also Pakistan’s top catcher with 138 catches in 117 Test matches.

Pakistani team, under his leadership, also won the 2009 Twenty20 Cricket World Cup held in Britain.

Three other Pakistani players, including Kabir Khan, Rashid Latif and Inzamam ul Haq have also coached Afghan team for short stints, however Younis Khan will have an edge over previous coaches as he and Afghan players share the same mother language.
