Majority of Americans view Trump's inauguration as more partisan affair: Gallup

A Gallup poll on Thursday showed that 55 percent of Americans see Trump's inauguration more of a political celebration by his supporters rather than by all Americans.

This political landscape is far different from eight years ago, when more than three-quarters of Americans viewed outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama's inauguration as one of the most historic in the nation's history and a celebration by all Americans.

The new Gallup survey suggested that most Americans view the Trump's inauguration a more partisan affair and Americans are split on whether protests are appropriate during the inauguration ceremonies, with pro and con rates standing at 46 percent and 51 percent respectively.

Republicans are more likely now than they were eight, even 16 years ago to see the ceremonies as a time for all to celebrate, while Democrats are now more likely than in 2001 or 2005 to think it is appropriate to protest the ceremonies, due to majority of Americans' unfavorable view of Trump and his opponents' planning for widespread protests through the weekend.

On Friday, Trump will be sworn in as the new U.S. president, after shocking the world just several weeks ago, as most polls and experts predicted that the billionaire would lose elections.

Presidential inaugurations are ceremonies at which presidents have celebrated the principles and beliefs that unite Americans. But in an era of ever-growing partisan differences, the gulf between Republicans and Democrats has widened even on the subject of the inauguration itself.
