Japan rocked by second quake in 48 hours, but no tsunami warning issued

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 jolted northeastern and eastern Japan on Thursday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. No tsunami warning was issued.

The quake, which occurred at 6:23 a.m., measured 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures, the agency said.

On Tuesday, an earthquake struck near the Fukushima area which was hit by a magnitude 9 tremor in 2011.
