Malaysian authorities have beefed up vigilance over potential terror treats following the bombing attacks in Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Thursday.
Malaysian police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said police had raised the alert to the "highest degree" following the Jakarta attacks.
Increased security measures are in place at public locations as shopping malls and tourist spots, Khalid said in a statement, adding that extra precautionary actions will be implemented in border areas to prevent possible infiltration by terror elements.
"Those on our radar as being suspiciously related to terrorist activities will be monitored closely," he said.
Khalid assured the public that the police have been on constant vigilance. Even before the latest attack in Indonesia, the police have already stepped up preventive measures and were on a high degree of alert to pre-empt potential attacks from happening in Malaysia following recent terrorist attacks around the globe.
Malaysia's foreign ministry said no Malaysians were involved in the attacks on Thursday. Prime Minister Najib Razak said he was "deeply shocked and saddened" and had offered assistance to Indonesia.
At least seven people were killed, including five attackers, and 20 others injured in the suicide blasts in Jakarta, Indonesia police said.
Malaysia has stepped up effort to tackle terror threat since the rise of the Islamic State (IS). Police said this week that more than 40 Malaysians are fighting for IS in Syria and Iraq at present.
