At least four Afghans were killed and two others injured in a suicide attack in Garmsir district of the southern Helmand province on Sunday, local police said.

"A terrorist tied explosive device in his body and blew himself up in the bazaar of Garmsir district at around 1:20 p.m. local time (0850 GMT), killing himself and three others, including tribal elder Abdul Wali and two police personnel," district police chief Mohammad Timor told Xinhua.

Wali, according to the official, was a supporter of the government against armed militants in the area.

Two other civilians sustained injuries in the bombing, he added.

The official also blamed the attack on the enemies of peace, a reference to the Taliban militants, but the armed group has yet to claim responsibility.
