BRUSSELS, June 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are the latest developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in European countries.

LONDON -- Another 38 COVID-19 patients have died in Britain as of Sunday afternoon, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 41,736, the British Department of Health and Social Care said Monday.

The figures include deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes and the wider community.

As of Monday morning, 296,857 people have tested positive for the disease in Britain, a daily increase of 1,056, according to the department.

ROME -- Italy recorded 26 new COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, the lowest daily increase in the country since March 3 as COVID-19 overall situation remained "at a low level of criticality," according to official monitoring reports unveiled on Monday.

So far, a total of 34,371 people have lost their lives to the coronavirus-caused disease in Italy, according to the daily bulletin of the national Civil Protection Department. It was the lowest daily death toll since March 3 when the country recorded 27 COVID-19 victims.

With 640 new recoveries during the same 24-hour period, 177,010 people have recovered since the pandemic officially broke out in the country on Feb. 21, according to the bulletin.

PARIS -- France's Health Ministry on Monday said 29 people died of the COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total tally to 29,436, while the hospitalization data continued its month-long decline.

In a statement, the ministry said 10,752 patients were hospitalized, of whom 846 were receiving intensive treatment, down by 33.

In total, France has recorded 157,372 confirmed cases, a single-day increase of 152, fewer than Sunday's 407. A total of 73,044 COVID-19 patients have recovered and returned home since early March.

MADRID -- Spain's COVID-19 deaths remain unchanged on Monday at 27,136, according to the data published by the Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare.

The ministry confirmed 25 deaths "with the date of death given in the past seven days," one fewer compared with the 26 deaths over a seven-day period published on Sunday.

The ministry also reported 40 new COVID-19 infections detected by PCR tests, lower than 48 cases registered in the previous 24-hour period, taking the country's total infections to 244,109.
