China has once again broken a Guinness World Record, this time for the most people simultaneously transplanting seedlings, after an attempt in Tonghe, Heilongjiang Province on Monday.

At the event organised by the Tonghe county government in Northeast China, 2,017 participants transplanted seven million rice seedlings in 13 minutes and 23 seconds. The age of the participants ranged from 13 to 98.

A Guinness World Record official told gbtimes that the event was an official attempt but the record has not yet been confirmed.

As a county famous for rice, the local government intended to promote its rice product through this mass effort. Peoples in China started cultivating rice 7,000 years ago and 60 percent of the population now eat rice as staple food.

The previous record was made by 1,215 participants at an event organised by the Taoyuan County Farmers' Association in Taoyuan, Taiwan, on August 18, 2012.
