The British royals, Prince William and his wife Kate who are on a five day visit to Pakistan, visited a glacier in the Hindu Kush mountain range on Wednesday.

The two reached the Chiatibo glacier, not far from Afghanistan border, in a helicopter. The visit was made particularly to observe the impact that climate change is having on glaciers.

A climate change expert was also present with them who explained them the situation and how the glarier size was reducing. He stressed, a significant number of glaciers have been melting in Pakistan.

During their visit, Prince William and his wife Kate were given a photo album with pictures of Princess Diana who visited Pakistan in 1991.

Earlier in a speech at a reception hosted by the British High Commission in Islamabad, Prince William spoke about climate change.

He said, “This could lead to a loss of over a third of these vital glaciers in less than a century, with enormous impacts not only on the availability of water, but on agriculture and hydropower generation.”

“I hope to learn what more we all can do to help prevent and mitigate this impending global catastrophe,” he further stressed.
