SouthKoreaexpectsitsdemandfornaturalgastofallby5percentoverthenext15years,asincreaseduseofliquefiednaturalgas(LNG)byhouseholdsandindustryonlypartlyoffsetsasteepfallinitsdemandforpowergeneration.
Theworld'ssecond-largestLNGimporterwillalsoseektodiversifyitssuppliers,andplanstoworkwithotherbigAsianbuyersJapanandChinatoco-operateoversupplies,theMinistryofTrade,IndustryandEnergysaidonMonday.
Still,SouthKoreawillinvest7.1trillionKoreanwon($6.1billion)toexpanddomesticgassupplyfacilitiesincludingpipelinesandstoragetanksthrough2029,theministrysaidinastatement.
LNGaccountedforabout21.4percentofSouthKorea'spowergenerationin2014.
