Cambodia to attend ASEAN defense ministers'meeting in Malaysia

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Tea Banh left for Langkawi, Malaysia on Sunday to attend the 9th ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting to be held from Monday.

"The ASEAN defense ministers will review the latest development of security and defense situation in ASEAN," Nem Sowath, chief of the Cambodian Defense Ministry's Policy and Foreign Affairs Department, told reporters at Phnom Penh International Airport before departure.

He said the ASEAN defense ministers would also discuss concept documents on ASEAN military roles in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations and the establishment of ASEAN Military Medicine Coordination Centre.

Gen. Tea Banh will stay in Langkawi until March 21, he said, adding that during the visit, he will also attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition and a multinational exercise.

Founded in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
