China issues military white paper

According to the white paper issued by the State Council Information Office, the PLA Army employs 850,000 people...

Falling into 18 combined corps, under seven military commands across the country, including from Beijing and Guangzhou.

The report also revealed the PLA Navy and Air Force has 235,000... and 398,000 officers and men, respectively.

It said China faces multiple security threats and challenges, including many domestic concerns - such as containing separatist forces, safeguarding borders and protecting maritime territory...

Including islands in the East China Sea claimed by both China and Japan.

The document also says China will never seek hegemony or engage in military expansion... And that it will quote, "not attack, unless we are attacked."
