A man was killed and nine people were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in New Orleans, the largest city in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

The 10 people were shot by gun fire at about 1:30 a.m. local time in the French Quarter, a tourist destination in New Orleans, and the man died later at a hospital, according to the city's English daily the Times-Picayune.

Police confirmed the shooting at a press conference Sunday afternoon, saying that the victims, aged from 20-37, included two females and eight males.

The police have arrested two persons, including one shooting victim, on firearms charges.

Shelvin Gray, 19, was one of the two arrested and booked with illegal possession of a firearm, the police said, adding that there have been no charges in connection with the shooting at this time.

The police said that they did not know the cause of the shooting, but witnesses said that there was a dispute before the gun fires.
