Latvia to spend near 2 million euros on events during EU presidency

Latvian government has planned to spend 1.87 million euros ( 2.46 million US dollars) on the organisation of various events related to the Latvia's presidency of the European Union (EU), local media reported on Monday.

Latvia will take the presidency of the EU in the first half of 2015. During the presidency, Latvia is to host about 200 events organized by different state institutions.

These will be informal meetings of EU ministerial councils, expert task forces, conferences, seminars and other such events. Eastern Partnership summit, European and Asian education ministers' meeting and European Standardization Summit are some of the events to be held during Latvia's presidency. These events are to attract approximately 25,000 participants from various fields: government leaders, EU institutions' specialists, ministers, state and municipal leaders, businessmen, non-governmental organizations and social partners' representatives.
