Five people were killed, one went missing and five others sustained serious injury after flash floods and landslides hit West Java province in western Indonesia on Sunday night, a local disaster agency top official said on Monday.

Heavy downpours triggered landslides at three spots in Sukakerti village of Subang district at about 21:00 p.m. local time, blocking flow of waters in a river, Haryadi W, head of provincial disaster agency said.

"That caused the river to overflow its banks and created flash floods," he told Xinhua via phone from the province.

"The flash floods caused one house collapsed and nine others seriously damaged," said Haryadi.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby health clinic and the missing person is being searched for now, he said.

An evacuation and search operation has been under way, involving soldiers, police and local disaster agency officials, Haryadi said.

Indonesia is frequently hit by floods and landslides during heavy downpours.
