The Libyan coast guards on Friday rescued 56 illegal immigrants off the county's coast, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said.
"Fifty-six migrants were just returned to Libyan shore, among them 9 women and 2 children," the IOM tweeted.
The rescued immigrants had been taken to a detention center in the city of Sabratha, some 70 km west of the capital Tripoli, it said.
"IOM reiterates that the arbitrary detention of migrants must end. Alternative solutions that safeguard lives must be found," it added.
On Thursday, the IOM said Libyan coast guards rescued more than 150 illegal immigrants off the county's coast, stressing that Libya is not a safe port for illegal immigrants' disembarkation, due to the deteriorating security conditions in the country.
The IOM said that more than 110,000 illegal immigrants made their way to Europe through the Mediterranean in 2019, while 1,283 died on the way.
