Various companies from Dubai have expressed interest Tuesday for investments in Albanian Durres Port and Shengjin Port.
Albanian Transport and Infrastructure Minister Edmond Haxhinasto met Tuesday with Chairman of the "Dubai Port World" group Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem and the delegation accompanying him.
Haxhinasto and the representative of companies from Dubai discussed opportunities of cooperation between the two sides, mainly regarding the maritime transport sector.
Haxhinasto praised the existing bilateral relations and made an overview of main projects in the transport and infrastructure sectors where he mentioned the VIII Corridor, the railway and port' s sectors.
He addressed the Dubai Ports Authority's interest, one of the largest ports worldwide, on the growth and evolution of Durres Port as one with great potentials for development.
The Dubai delegation during the two day stay in Albania will visit the Durres Port and Shengjin Port.
The Port of Durres, the biggest port of Albania, is an artificial basin that is formed between two moles, with a west-northwesterly oriented entrance about 183 metres wide as it passes between the ends of the moles.
The implementation of the new project for the port of Shengjin will offer the possibility of development of Balkan region, especially in the growth of trade exchanges in the Balkan with countries from all around the world. The port is foreseen to be built in the rocky seacoast of Shengjin, north of Albania heading toward Velipoja, a very deep seacoast, which processes in a natural way ships up to 400,000 tons.
