All major landmark buildings in Los Angeles, from city hall downtown to Santa Monica's ferris wheel, were illuminated with blue light on Tuesday night after the hometown Dodgers won the first game of the World Series.

In Tuesday's game, which lasted only two and one-half hour, the National League champion Dodgers edged the American League champions the Houston Astros 3-1 on the Dodgers' home diamond.

The Dodgers' Justin Turner was the key man of the game, muscling a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead and the eventual win.

Los Angeles' Mayor Eric Garcetti posted 6 tweets on Tuesday during the game, with one of them exclaiming "when it gets hot, we get hot. #thisteam."

It's the second time for the Dodgers to compete in the World Series since 1988.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has even made a friendly wager with California Governor Jerry Brown on the outcome of series.

According to KTLA 5, Abbott is betting a six-pack of Houston-brewed beer and Texas BBQ, while Brown is putting up a selection from wineries in Mendocino, Napa and Sonoma counties, which have been impacted by devastating wildfires which raged earlier this month.

Abbott will also be making a donation to the recovery and relief efforts for the wildfires, the report said.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is set for Wednesday.

The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball in North America, contested since 1903 between the American League champion and the National League champion.
