U.S. sending delegation for more nuke talks with Iran

The United States is sending a high-level delegation to Geneva for resumed talks with Iran over its controversial nuclear talks, the State Department announced Thursday.

Wendy Sherman, the acting deputy secretary of state, will lead the American delegation for bilateral talks with Iran slated for Jan. 15-17, and then attend a meeting to be held on Jan. 18 between the Islamic republic and the so-called P5+1 group of Britain, China, France, Russia, the U.S. plus Germany, the department said in a statement.

The political-director level talks are the second meeting between Iran and the six world powers after they missed a Nov. 24 deadline for clinching a comprehensive deal over Iran's nuclear program. They last met in Geneva, Switzerland, on Dec. 17 after agreeing to extend their talks for another seven months.

William Burns, former deputy secretary of state, and Jake Sullivan, senior advisor for the Iran nuclear talks, are among members on the U.S. delegation, the State Department said. Enditem
