Indonesia keen to sign cooperation on megaprojects with Japan

Indonesia expected to further boost its cooperation with Japan on several megaprojects during the upcoming visit of Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Indonesia scheduled on Jan. 15.

Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that PM Abe would be received by President Widodo in Bogor presidential palace, where bilateral talks between the two leaders was scheduled to be held.

The senior minister said that among the agendas to be discussed during the high-profile talks of the two leaders were cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in the development of Masela gas block, Jakarta-Surabaya high speed train transport project and Patimban seaport in West Java province.

Luhut expected that signing on joint study cooperation document on Jakarta-Surabaya high speed train project was highly expected to take place in the meeting of the two leaders.

He said that the government is now in finalization phase of financing mechanism on the project.
