US President Trump and India Prime Minister Modi spoke over the telephone on Tuesday, discussing issues of world importance and wished each other success in the New Year.

The two also shared their desire to enhance cooperation and promote mutual interest between the two countries.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, “India-US relations have grown from strength to strength.”

"The Prime Minister highlighted the significant progress made in deepening the Strategic Partnership between the two countries in the previous year and expressed his desire to continue to work with President Trump for enhancing cooperation in all areas of mutual interest," the statement further said.

A report published in Bloomberg quoted the White House saying, “Today, President Donald J. Trump spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India to exchange New Year’s greetings. The leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the United States-India strategic partnership in 2020, and they also reviewed the regional, Gulf region security matters."

Trump also wished the Indian people prosperity and progress in the New Year. He further said that he was glad that India-US relationship was progressing at a good pace and hoped that bilateral cooperation was further enhanced.
